Axminster carpets are a mixture of 80% wool and 20% nylon yarn. They are manufactured using high speed broadloom machinery with an applicable width of 3.66m to 4.2m.

Hand knotted carpets have a distinctive backing with each knot on the front leaving a similar knot at the back of the carpet in a loop, the whole pattern on the front is visible knott by knott at the back of the carpet.

There are many machines that now give the exact same finishing at the back as knotted carpets, however an authentic knotted carpet is hand made and the imperfections due to human intervention is what marks the originality of the carpet. A machine made carpet will be typically very uniform and perfect including the edge binding and the frills are also usually sewn on the machine made piece to make it look like a knotted carpet.

You can maintain the carpets by vacuuming them , always use a soft brush in case brushing it by hand . Do not use harsh bristles or chemical or bleaching agents . In case you spill something , first absorb the liquid or particles using a muslin cloth , then gently shampoo the spot where you have a stain using a mild shampoo or a baby shampoo and scrub by hand gently using a muslin cloth . In case the stain is stubborn do not try to repeatedly clean it , instead take help from a professional cleaning or dry cleaning company.

Handmade carpets can be cleaned using mild shampoo with no added chemicals or bleaching agents.

Carpet Cleaning

You can vacuum your carpets for regular maintenance, in reality you don’t need professional cleaning very often, you can opt for professional cleaning twice a year depending upon how well you maintain your carpets. just like any other furnishing item.

Handmade carpets can be cleaned using mild shampoo with no added chemicals or bleaching agents.

Spot treatment using mild shampoo is the best and eco-friendly way of cleaning luxury carpets. Use muslin cloth instead of a synthetic cloth to clean the spots and stains . Take water to clean in a small container as opposed to using a hose to avoid wastage of water.

Vacuum your carpets, preferably keep the pets away as their pee and poop can permanently damage a portion of your carpet. Avoid any harsh chemicals, brushes or bleaching agents while maintaining your carpets . Avoid serving  foods and beverages that have a tendency to leave stubborn stains on your carpet . For high traffic areas prefer to use a wool carpet.

FF&E

Modern interiors are all about using muted tones with an accent element that centers a space and draws attention . If your furniture is very neutral and super modern , you can opt for carpets in organic tones and textures or you could also add an element of intrigue in your space by layering interesting pops of colour and pattern in your carpets and adding cushions, tassels or accessories in similar tones to unify the space.

For arranging your furniture for space optimization with your carpets, you need to factor in the extent of space demarcation that your floor plan allows .  Typically you should aim to have all your furniture on top of the carpet to give your space a grand look , if your space is not open plan and does not allow such a placement then try to go in halfway through the furniture with your carpet . For a dining space you should take into account the size of your table and add 1 m on all sides for the size of the carpet so that the dining chair can easily move in and out while remaining on tip of the carpet . For a bedroom , ensure you start after your night stands and have enough carpet on all 3 sides so that you do not see too much of the empty space and your room looks generous . Furniture on top of a small carpet makes your space look unplanned and small.

Carpet Maintenance

Wool carpets are easier to maintain and clean in comparison to silk carpets, use a professional dry cleaner to help dry the carpets properly. Always ensure the carpets are thoroughly dried before you put them back to use to avoid any fungus issues.

Restoration can be done by our team of experts on vintage hand knotted pieces or other categories of heritage rugs. In certain cases cuts can be mended for hand tufted carpets also but it depends upon the location of the incision and the type of design.

Carpet Installation

For installing a carpet we require an underlay, at Zuma we use the Durafit 500 which is a British brand and one of the best in terms of quality and performance. We have an in house installation team that specialises in both stretch fit and glue down method.

There is a different backing mechanism for a loose rug and a fitted carpet, if you want to install a carpet you need to pre plan before production so that the carpet can be manufactured with the desired backing and with the stipulated wastage to fit perfectly to your space. installation charges are over and above the cost of your carpet.

For custom carpet installations in villas, the process begins with careful planning during the production stage. At Zuma, we ensure the carpet is manufactured with the correct backing and includes the required wastage to achieve a perfect fit for your space. Our in-house installation team specializes in both stretch-fit and glue-down methods, using premium underlays like Durafit 500, a trusted British brand known for its quality and performance.

Installation charges are separate from the carpet cost, and the method is selected based on the design, usage, and site conditions to ensure a flawless finish and long-lasting comfort.

The floor needs to be at a uniform level or you need to screed your floor so that there are no bumps, gaps or bubbles once you install the carpet. you then need to put an underlay before the carpet can go on top. In case installation needs to be done using a gripper then the floor should be a concrete surface so that the gripper needles can be fixed on the floor.

Typically a Rubber underlay is used for glue down purpose, we base the thickness on the site requirement of the foot feel and the subsurface preparation. There are also foam underlays and felt underlays used. Felt underlay is mostly used with gripper rods on the edge of the space. 5mm rubber underlay is generally a comfortable thickness for both commercial as well as residential use.

Typically stretch fit installation is the most comfortable and long lasting solution.

Depending upon the order quantity and If the ground surface is ready we take 2-3 hours to install a carpet, even if it’s a big quantity then we can complete the installation within a day.

For commercial projects carpets are required to be fire rated as well as should be sourced from a reliable manufacturer with ISO and other quality management certifications.

The installation should be done with quality tools and accessories to ensure smooth usage after handover. Installers should wear safety equipment including gloves and safety helmet on site to ensure safety of the personnel.

Carpet Material

Carpet materials need to be selected based on 2 primary concerns location and usage. If it’s a formal space, a majlis or a master bedroom, it’s recommended to go for silk or semi worsted new zealand wool or a combination of both  to get that ultra luxury hotel like look and feel. If it’s a high traffic area or a living room, family salon or a kids room, opt for more wool options to make it easy to maintain and clean.

There are various grades of wool, the higher the quality the better the result. Nevertheless, all wool carpets make for a top choice in luxury interiors as it’s a natural material, it is easy to maintain and clean, it offers a posh matt finish to your carpet, and carvings come out the best in wool.

Silk carpets are beautiful and delicate and are recommended for formal spaces, majlis and master bedrooms. They can be super luxurious for everyday use but one needs to be careful as to how you maintain it. Wool generally is a more sturdy material.
